tTata’s ambitious new small car, Tata Tiago has arrived in the Indian automobile markets. This hatchback from Tata Motors is a result of joint collaboration between company’s design studios based in Pune, Italy and United Kingdom. It comes with a new design language unlike other models of the company. It was first unveiled as Tata Zica a few months back, but was renamed as Tiago. This hatchback looks very stylish from both inside and out, as Tata’s engineer’s have put in their hard work and efforts on building a quality product. Now let’s begin exploring the car to the fullest.

Styling:

The new Tata Tiago hatchback is a good-looking car unlike most car models of the Indian automaker. Like mentioned above, Tata motors have put in lot of efforts on the quality part and it shows off. As you can see, there is no sign of cost cutting in any section of interior or exterior. It comes with a solid construction with quality build down to the closest detail.

Exteriors:

It is needless to say that the all-new Tata Tiago has the best exterior design in its segment. This car looks better than other flimsy looking cars in the entry-level segment. It has a bold front fascia with a new signature-design, complimented by a lot of chrome inserts. This one, unlike ‘Indica’ or ‘Bolt’ has a newer design language that surely grabs the attention of onlookers. Even the body to wheel ratio looks finer than the other Tata models. Moving to the interiors, this car has a premium quality cabin unlike most of the entry-level cars of today. The color scheme is in dual tone finish and comes with glossy black and metallic highlights. The only disappointment about the cabin is that its interior space is suitable for four adults rather than five. This car has premium audio system designed by Harman with 8 speakers on board. Also, it comes with a multi-functional steering unit that aid driver.

Engine and performance:

This small car comes with petrol and diesel motor options like any other small hatchback. Its petrol motor belongs to the Revotron family, but the cylinder configuration has been reduced. While the diesel motor is an all-new motor that looks promising.

1.2-liter Revotron Petrol:

Despite reduction in number of cylinders, the motor pumps out the same power output like its 4 cylinder counterpart. This 119 produces a healthy power output of 85 PS at 6000 rpm and a torque of 114 Nm at 3500 rpm. The engine does feel noisy at times, but overall it does the job well. Driving experience on city roads is fine, but on highways, it could do much better.

Another specialty is that the engine comes with two different driving modes; Eco and City. The City mode is regular driving mode, while the Eco is designed for more fuel efficiency.

Transmission: As of now, it comes with only a five speed manual gearbox

Mileage: The petrol version of Tata Tiago offers a healthy mileage of 23.84 kmpl, which is exceptional.

1.05-liter Revotorq Diesel:

This is a gem of an engine that won’t let you down. This 1047 cc power plant is based on common rail fuel injection technology and comes integrated with an ‘ECU’ engine management system. This motor produces 70 PS of maximum power at 4000 rpm along with a 140 Nm of peak torque between 1800 to 3000 rpm.

Transmission: Like petrol motor, this one too comes with a five speed manual transmission.

Mileage: As per the company’s claims, this engine can return a mileage of 27.28 kmpl, which is perhaps the best in its class.

Features:

The car is currently on offer in five trim levels; ‘XB’, ‘XE’, ‘XM’, ‘XT’ and ‘XZ’. Among these, XB is the base variant, which gets a few essentials such as a blower, electric power steering unit, remote fuel and tailgate opener, 7 speed front wiper, driver foot rest and internally adjustable outside mirror. dDiesel Injectors are used for filling diesel fuel into a diesel engine or compression ignition engine. This fuel is directly injected into the engine with the help of Injectors attached to the cylinders of a diesel machine.

This fuel injecting system basically consists of the following parts – Fuel injection apparatus (nozzle and nozzle holder), fuel supply line, Air-intake valve, and diesel engine exhaust valve.

The function of the parts of diesel injectors is as follows:

An apparatus for fuel injection: Each cylinder of a compression ignition engine is connected to a fuel injector and therefore each cylinder has its own diesel supply line which carries the diesel from the diesel tank to the diesel engine. The fuel injector consists of a nozzle and a nozzle holder.

1. Diesel supply line: Each cylinder of a diesel engine has its own diesel supply line which carries the diesel from the diesel tank to the CI engine.

2. An intake valve: The role of an intake valve is to suck air into the combustion chamber. The air blends with the condensed diesel thus strengthening the combustion.

3. Diesel engine exhaust valve: It plays the important role of eliminating the emissions produced by the diesel combustion chamber.

Once the fuel comes in contact with the injectors, it becomes extremely pressurized. This pressure is created by a little pump that the injector is connected to. This little pump enables air to pass through the injector, consequently pressurizing the fuel. The highly pressurized fuel enters and flows down to the body of the nozzle holder and finally into the nozzle passage. A diesel injector has a needle valve that is closely connected to the spring located in the body of the injector. The compression nut stresses the spring to produce spring pressure and injector opening pressure simultaneously.

Once the needle valve opens, the fuel is sprayed by the diesel injector through the tiny nozzle situated in the combustion chamber of an engine cylinder. The cluster of little holes in the nozzle ensures its equal distribution into the combustion chamber of the cylinder. The tiny holes are specially designed and arranged to break the fuel into tiny drops so that they can burn readily.

Next, the air intake valves carry air into the combustion chamber and gets combined with condensed diesel thus intensifying the combustion. Now the fuel engine exhaust valve gets rid of the emissions generated by the fuel combustion chamber. The return diesel line gets rid of the surplus diesel fuel by bringing it back to the fuel tank from the fuel combustion chamber.

This is how a complex diesel injector functions. Diesel injectors are known as the most intricate elements of a diesel engine. It has the ability to endure high pressure and temperature produced inside the cylinder and circulates equal quantity of fuel to the cylinder thereby ensuring smooth functioning of a powerful diesel engine.
