Top 10 Tips for Keeping Your Car Clean Internally

Top 10 Tips for Keeping Your Car Clean Internally

e4It’s not unusual to see a shiny and very impressive car and then to glance inside and see what looks like a garbage scow.

That can be off-putting to friends, family and colleagues, many of whom might wonder what such a state might indicate about your wider lifestyle!

So, here are a few tips gleaned from professional luxury limo hire companies about keeping a vehicle clean.

1. Keep dirty people out of it. OK, partly a joke but it has a serious side. If people have muddy boots and shoes on, it’s not unreasonable to ask them to remove them before getting in. Even if you have good mats, mud can still get onto your upholstery. So, keep a plastic bag or box in the boot ready for dirty shoes. A limo hire company couldn’t ask their paying guests to do so but you as a private driver can!

2. Don’t allow eating in the car. Crumbs are a nightmare to get out of nooks and crannies, even with an industrial strength vacuum.

3. Be cautious about liquids. Sometimes hydration is important when driving but ask people to use a cup rather than swig out of bottles in order to reduce spillage risks.

4. Only allow water to be consumed. If someone drops a cup or bottle of water in your car, then it’s a minor nuisance. If they drop a cup of sticky sweet red fruit juice (etc.) then it’s going to be a much bigger staining and removal challenge.

5. Don’t allow pets in your car. If you’ve ever spent hours trying to get pet hair off your seats and carpets, then the sense of this recommendation will be self-evident.

6. Keep a sick bag at hand when travelling with younger children. A child can be fine one second and in the blink of an eye, they’ll start vomiting for no obvious reason. Your notice is likely to be minimal and pulling up isn’t always possible in time. A receptacle of some sort could save your upholstery and a very unpleasant cleaning job afterwards!

7. If you can, choose leather or faux-leather upholstery. It’s much easier to clean and often harder to stain. In fairness, some modern fabric seats are good too but still probably not as ‘wipe-able’ as leather or simulated leather.

8. Keep an emergency seat cover in the car. This is invaluable when your kids have come back covered head-to-foot in mud and you can’t exactly ask them to sit undressed in the car for the drive back home.

9. Don’t allow smoking in your car. There is no position on health here, just one of safety and practicalities. It’s very difficult to get rid of holes in upholstery or carpets caused by a dropped cigarette or cigar.

10. Keep a rubbish bag. Empty wrappers and tickets always seem to mysteriously find their way onto the floor of a car and under seats etc. Soon, the car can look like a truck on the way to the tip. So, keep a bin bag and insist people use that instead of door pockets etc.

Don’t worry, you won’t lose friends over your new standards and they just might appreciate that lift a bit more in future if they think that your vehicle is no longer a health hazard!

Make a Difference While You Drive

Make a Difference While You Drive

maaCars are indeed true wonders of engineering. However, with more vehicles on the roads now than ever before, it is important that each of us is aware of its impacts on our environment. Whether you own or rent a car, whether you have a standard or luxury car, there are things you can do to save money and reduce energy use, CO2 emissions and pollution.

If you care about a eco-friendly drive too, you’ll be pleased to hear there are a few simple ways you can make a difference.

• Slow down gradually: Slowing down gradually at Traffic Lights is better for the environment as it reduces fuel consumption.

• Drive at a consistent speed: Accelerating and breaking hard will cut the efficiency of your drive by around 33%. That’s because sudden stopping and starting requires more energy. Try and maintain a regular speed to get the most out of your fuel.

• Use cruise control: Using cruise control on flat terrain provides a 7% fuel saving on an average because it helps you maintain a steady speed. Avoid it on hilly roads though as this will cause your engine to speed up and slow down.

• Service your car: Ensuring your fuel system is working properly and your tires are inflated and balanced to manufacturers’ specifications can ensure fuel efficiency.

• Switching off the extras: Air conditioning and heaters require huge amount of power, which will cut your fuel economy. That said, driving with the windows open creates drag, so you need to find a balance to maintain a comfy temperature within your car.

• Change gears at lower revs: Over-revving wastes lots of fuel. If you change up a little earlier this will reduce your revs. If you’re driving a diesel car, we suggest you aim to up-shift a gear when the rev counter reaches 2000 rpm. For petrol cars, we suggest 2500 rpm.

• Plan your trip: The more direct your route and the less time you spend slowing down to figure out which way to go, the more efficient your drive will be.

• Shut down: Switch off the engine if you think you will be stationary for more than two minutes.

• Lose the weight: Extra weight means extra fuel, so if there’s unnecessary baggage in the boot you don’t need on the journey, take it out and store it at home.

These few simple little changes to your car and driving techniques can be followed on both owned and rented cars. This would further help you save not just the environment but your money too.

Why Do Companies Buy Junk Cars

Why Do Companies Buy Junk Cars

ffMany people probably may look at companies that buy junk cars like they are crazy, I mean why would they want to pay cash for junk cars? First, the term junk car can be interpreted in many different ways, and of course ultimately lies in the eye of the beholder. I’m sure you heard the expression “One man’s trash is another mans treasure.” And this of course goes without saying for junk cars as well. That car that you may have that you consider junk, and not know what to do with can have some real value to many different people and different types of businesses out there.

Most people associate the phrase “junk cars” with being an old rusted, parted out vehicle sitting on someones lawn, which really isn’t always the case at all. A car can suddenly die, the transmission can go, have electrical failure, get wrecked in an accident, etc. However all of these cars still do have value to someone, somewhere out there. For scrap yards, the cars can be sold for their weight in scrap, or parted out which in the end makes them money. Also, towing companies can pay you cash for junk cars because they can either get paid by a junk yard to deliver the car, or if the car is in decent condition, they may know a dealer that may take it, fix it up and sell it for a profit.

There are also companies that buy junk cars from people directly. Instead of you having to find a tower and may even have to pay them to take your car, and then find a junk yard to take it, which may pay you like a hundred bucks or two, these companies specialize in buying vehicles and determining if they have more value than just to be sold for scrap, so you can then get more for your car than you thought, because they already know who will buy the car and pay a higher price for it. These are the companies you want to look for when getting rid of junk cars, because not only will they pay top dollar for your car, but they will have it picked up and towed for free too. Being able to determine a car’s worth not only significantly increases your profit, but allows them to make a decent profit as well, so it ends up working out well for you, and the company that purchases the car.

What To Do With Your Wrecked Car

What To Do With Your Wrecked Car

wIf you ever get into an accident or unfortunately have been in one, one of the many things that may come to a person’s mind is “What am I going to do with this piece of junk car?” Most people still being in the shock of the moment have the car towed back to their homes, and if they are lucky they have a driveway or garage, but some people are not as lucky and have to have it towed and parked on the street for a few days until they can decide what to do with it. Other people would just have a towing company pick it up and take it away, and goodbye car. Most towers will even charge you for the tow. Even those that had the vehicles brought to their home either by having it towed or driving it themselves now usually look around and try to find a salvage or scrap yard to take the car off their hands because they simply just don’t know what else to do. Still, in these cases many towers will still charge for the tow to the scrap yard and in other cases the scrap yard may pay you like a hundred bucks for your vehicle if you’re lucky. Scrap yards will sometimes pay cash for junk cars but no where near as much as it could be worth. You should ask yourself a few questions before you practically just give the car away for nothing:

  • Is the car still in running condition?
  • Besides being able to start it, is it still drivable?
  • Is it still safe to drive, have any of the airbags deployed?
  • How much would it cost you to fix, and is it worth it?
  • How can I find a place that pays cash for junk cars instead of giving it away for free?

These are just a few of many things you should think of because there is a very good possibility that you won’t even have to pay to have your car towed and will even find a company that buys junk cars. That’s right, you can actually get money for that car that you may in the past have had to pay to have removed. Don’t settle for less than you deserve, and don’t get stuck paying to having it towed to a scrap yard that will make hundreds if not thousands off of your car that you paid them to take.

Hi, my name is Mike Frantel, and besides myself I know many people that have been in similar situations like above. Ironically, I ended up working for a company that pays Cash For Junk Cars. Please visit our website when you get the chance, and please feel free to ask us any type of questions you may have about junk car removal and your current situation.

My Car Is Dead, What Do I Do With It

My Car Is Dead, What Do I Do With It

caAs all too many people know, cars can just die on you sometimes for no apparent reason whatsoever. It could be for a number of different mechanical or electrical reasons, but what’s most important to you is figuring out what the heck just happened and what you’re going to do with this junk car? Most people will initially of course take it to a mechanic and have it inspected to see what the issue is, only to find out that the cost to fix it, costs close to or even way more than the current market value of the car. If it’s a new car you may very well just end up paying the costs, because even if it’s something expensive like a transmission, the price to fix or replace it more than likely would not cost as much as it would to buy a new car, and the thought of getting rid of it most likely would not even cross your mind at all.

However, what about all the other car owners out there, the ones that the cost to fix it are extremely high and are close to what the car is actually worth? What are they going to do with their car in this situation? I mean after the towing fee to the mechanic, the outrageous estimate the mechanic gives you, on top of the charge to just have the diagnostics done the costs are already starting to add up, and if you don’t get it fixed because it costs too much, you’ll have to pay to have the car towed back to your home. It’s not a good feeling, and believe me I’ve been there I know. It really comes down to some tough decisions that need to be made, and I’m a real penny pincher so my decision was a tough one.

You can find yourself with many different thoughts and options that may be available to you once you’ve decided it’s not worth keeping the car. I mean you can try to sell it yourself, but that takes time and maybe even more money if you place paid ads. You can just have a tower pick it up which will usually charge you for the tow, or start calling around and finding out what different scrap / junk yards will pay you for it which isn’t usually a lot considering they usually only pay for the amount in scrap weight. Amazingly you may actually find a place that will pay cash for junk cars. They will have your car picked up, towed away for free and actually pay you for your vehicle. So, try to remember that there are companies out there that do this out there before you give your car away for free or end up paying to have it towed away.

Environmental Factors

Environmental Factors

3yNow, don’t get us wrong. We are the caretakers of our environment and it is our duty to make sure it endures for future generations. That being said, environmental factors (including weather) can really do a number on your car, especially the exterior.

Acid Rain

Rain is a pretty big deal for us now in California. We are in the midst of perhaps the most severe drought in recorded history and we really, really, REALLY don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth. The fact is, however, that factory pollutants basically convert to acid in our atmosphere and adhere to moisture that makes its way down to our cars as rain or snow. Sulfuric acid and nitric acid are the most common.

Basically, when the water from either rain or snow evaporates, it leaves the acid to eat away at your car’s paint job. Sunlight exacerbates this problem, since acid doesn’t evaporate like water. Some blame clear coat paint technology, which creates a mirror-like finish. Any etches or blemishes would show prominently with such a sheen. In addition, there are certain chemicals that can no longer be used in paint that makes it less resistant to the elements.

The Solution

Marks left by acid rain look like a splattered raindrops, and unfortunately, they cannot be washed off after they’ve made their mark. One way to mitigate the negative effects of acid rain (or snow) is to have your car washed after it rains. Now, we understand that this could get tedious, but thankfully there are some remarkably convenient ways to get your car washed nowadays. Another option is tougher paint. Most of the time though, the “better” paint tends to be used on more luxury models.

Dust, Debris, and Heat

While this does not necessarily count as debris, bird poop has a similar effect on paint as acid rain because of its acidic nature. Leaving bird poop on your car to bake in the sun is a recipe for a pockmarked paint job.

When you don’t wash your car regularly, dust and debris (like leaves) collect in various nooks and crannies. Dust and debris that sit on the exterior of your car have the potential to scratch the paint. This is obviously not like someone took a key to your car (depending on the debris). It’s subtle, but can still compromise the integrity of the clear coat and weaken your car’s defense against the elements. Wiping off dust and debris yourself, without washing your car, will scratch the paint as well. Washing your car is the safest bet.

Modern-Day Technology for Sustainable Transportation

Modern-Day Technology for Sustainable Transportation

suThe transport services are in use from ancient times. The services are the very essence of civilization and vital for trade and travel to flourish. Transportation allows people at large to shift at a suitable location, where all the facilities for progress, development and good health are profusely present. In earlier times man and animal power was mainly used for transportation needs; but in present context there is a remarkable development in transportation industry. Nowadays, when technological advancement with computer chips is at its peak; the transport industry cannot remain indifferent and work in isolation. Read on, as the present article throws light on intelligent transportation and the various facets linked to it.

Sheer delight with transportation infrastructure

The transport services are sought in almost every field. For example, it could be the transport of food stock from the area of production to the market, where it has to be finally sold out. Similarly, the manufactured goods of industries like pharmaceuticals, apparel manufacturers, furniture manufacturers, FMCG industries, and so on. In all the illustrated cases, businesses are solely dependent on the transportation services. The manufactured goods, when transported to the hand of consumer in quick succession are a sheer delight. This is because; product is fresh, new and all set for consumption. In this way, the services of transportation prove beneficial for both; the manufacturer who produces the goods and end consumer, who is finally consuming the manufactured product. Here, the infrastructure sought for transportation includes rails, roads, terminals, airports, gas stations, etc.

Intelligent transportation for quality life

The airplane, train, trollies, trucks, ships, and vans are some of the common mode of transportation vehicle that is used for transporting goods from one place to another. In this regards, the fast moving bullet trains, hydrogen powered tram, and recently launched Apple Car – is one step ahead in serving people in smart fashion. This intelligent transportation using artificial intelligence will leads to smart city with more efficiency and quality of life.

Vehicle propulsion

Further to add, decades earlier it was only fossil fuel and steam engine that was exclusively used in moving vehicles for the transportation needs. But, nowadays, electricity, wind energy, solar energy, and even the nuclear energy have come into the picture for vehicle propulsion. Here, it is important to note that transportation can only exist, so long, as there is advancement in technology. If there is no technology then, transportation cannot exist, and trade at global level cannot flourish. Last but certainly not the least, the transportation industry is directly related to the technological breakthrough, bringing zero delays, zero accidents, and total environment conservation.

Brief Overview of the New Tata Tiago Hatchback

tTata’s ambitious new small car, Tata Tiago has arrived in the Indian automobile markets. This hatchback from Tata Motors is a result of joint collaboration between company’s design studios based in Pune, Italy and United Kingdom. It comes with a new design language unlike other models of the company. It was first unveiled as Tata Zica a few months back, but was renamed as Tiago. The only disappointment about the cabin is that its interior space is suitable for four adults rather than five. This car has premium audio system designed by Harman with 8 speakers on board. Also, it comes with a multi-functional steering unit that aid driver.

Engine and performance:

This small car comes with petrol and diesel motor options like any other small hatchback. Its petrol motor belongs to the Revotron family, but the cylinder configuration has been reduced. While the diesel motor is an all-new motor that looks promising.

1.2-liter Revotron Petrol:

Despite reduction in number of cylinders, the motor pumps out the same power output like its 4 cylinder counterpart. This 119 produces a healthy power output of 85 PS at 6000 rpm and a torque of 114 Nm at 3500 rpm. The engine does feel noisy at times, but overall it does the job well. Driving experience on city roads is fine, but on highways, it could do much better.

Transmission: As of now, it comes with only a five speed manual gearbox

Mileage: The petrol version of Tata Tiago offers a healthy mileage of 23.84 kmpl, which is exceptional.

This motor produces 70 PS of maximum power at 4000 rpm along with a 140 Nm of peak torque between 1800 to 3000 rpm.

Transmission: Like petrol motor, this one too comes with a five speed manual transmission.

Mileage: As per the company’s claims, this engine can return a mileage of 27.28 kmpl, which is perhaps the best in its class.

The car is currently on offer in five trim levels; ‘XB’, ‘XE’, ‘XM’, ‘XT’ and ‘XZ’. Among these, XB is the base variant, which gets a few essentials such as a blower, electric power steering unit, remote fuel and tailgate opener, 7 speed front wiper, driver foot rest and internally adjustable outside mirror. The next-in-line XE variant gets an AC unit along with front power outlet and a few optional features.

XZ is the top-spec variant that gets most number of features such as an in-car entertainment system from ‘Harman’, cooled glove box, alloy wheels, LED fuel & temperature gauge, electrically adjustable outside mirrors and much more.

In this section, dual front airbags comes as standard for the top end XZ variant only. However, variants like XE, XM and XT gets front airbags as optional feature. The all-new Tata Tiago is good car for families and Individuals, who are looking to buy their first car. Besides, it is one of the most stylish and affordable cars in the entry-level segment. Despite concerns over the reliability, you can place your bucks on the new Tiago hatchback, since the company focused heavily on its build quality.

Prepare to Purchase Your First Used Cars

Prepare to Purchase Your First Used Cars

35Whether you are a teen who has just obtained a driver’s license, or an adult who is in the market for his or her first car, you’ll want to do a little preparation before shopping used cars. This will ensure you get the best deal and remain happy with your purchase for years to come.

First, take a look at your finances. Do you have any money saved toward buying a car? Is this amount enough to pay for the entire purchase, or is it just what you need for a down payment? Once you realize how much you have, you can begin searching for financing options. Finding out what you qualify for beforehand can save you a lot of time and let you know the maximum budget you have so you don’t fall in love with a car that is out of your reach.

Size and Style

Next, consider your needs to determine how big of a vehicle or what style of automobile you’re looking for. If you transport construction materials for work, for example, your best bet is to look for a truck. Perhaps you have three children and you do a lot of carpooling. In that case, a minivan would be better. A few additional things to contemplate are whether you prefer manual or automatic, gas or electric, and whether you’ll be doing a lot of commuting or just driving around town.

Condition of the Vehicle

When browsing the used cars on the lot and finding one that fits your parameters, take a quick look at the condition of the vehicle. If the inside seats are ripped and there are stains everywhere, chances are the previous owners did not take good care of it. That means it might not have received the routine maintenance it needed to really last. After you’ve examined the interior, do a quick walk around the vehicle to see if there is any damage from rust.

Take it for a Test Drive

After you locate a vehicle among the used cars that fits your price range and looks good inside and out, ask to take it for a test drive. You don’t want to start off with an automobile that has engine problems or bad breaks. These are some things you may be able to detect with a test drive.

Get an Expert’s Opinion

Just to be on the safe side, it is best to ask the dealership if you can have a mechanic look over the car before you make a final decision on whether or not to purchase it. Legitimate used car dealerships will not have a problem with this, and if the mechanic gives you the thumbs up, then you can begin the paperwork to own your very first vehicle.

If you find any defects on the car during the inspection, and you wouldn’t mind having them fixed, use that to negotiate the price down. Then, you can use the savings to have that issue taken care of right after you buy the vehicle.

All About Rubber Speed Humps

All About Rubber Speed Humps

e3A speed hump is a rounded parabolic device that aids in reducing a vehicle’s speed on residential areas. The unit is loved by many people as its easy and fast to install and remove, cost effective compared to asphalt speed humps, offers a consistent profile, easily conforms to the road curvature, and with the right tools you can install them alone.

Areas that you can install the humps

There are many areas where you can install the units. These areas include: Hospitals, parking facilities, residential areas, school zones, shopping centers, construction work zones, warehouses, nursing homes, playground areas and school crossings.

While you can install the units in residential areas, it doesn’t mean that you should install them without supervision. Before installing them, ask the city traffic engineer to inspect the area and approve it. The engineer should also guide you on the right size of humps that you should go for.

In addition to installing the humps, also consider installing warning signs that warn drivers of the humps. The signs should be clearly visible by approaching motorists and should be placed according to the local standards and laws.

Drainage problems have been one of the major problems of installing the units where most roads start flooding as soon as the units are installed. This is because most of the contractors don’t leave space to facilitate drainage. To be on the safe side, leave one foot from the street curb to drain water.

As mentioned, ask a city engineer to visit the area that you are planning of installing the humps and evaluate it. Some of the areas that you should never install the humps include: Over manholes, less than 10 feet from driveways, on roads with sharp horizontal curves, and on streets with a grade that is in excess of 5%.

If you are installing the humps in areas that are prone to snow, remember that the humps are easily damaged; therefore, install them in ways that you can easily remove them during snow removal. Install them in ways that you can remove and replace the humps without damaging them.
