New Technologies That Are the Future of Transportation

The automotive and transportation industries are among the fastest-growing industries on the market when it comes to the implementation of new technologies. We’ve seen many big changes and new developments this past year alone. Many believe that the future of transportation will be bright; it is certainly a future worth looking forward to, especially with more discoveries and new technologies being introduced.

There are a few notable advancements in these fields that are shaping the course as well as the future. In this article, we are going to take a look at some of the new technologies, including major brands like Volkswagen that are considered the future of transportation.

Autonomous Vehicles (Automated Cars)

The research into self-driving cars and other autonomous vehicles is reaching its critical stage. The mechanical parts and systems we have today are already more than capable in driving passengers with minimal input while artificial intelligence takes the wheel. We’re also seeing great new parts being added to larger vehicles to ease distribution and make transporting resources easier.

It’s no longer just a research game either. Major automotive brands are investing in the future of transportation. Volkswagen for instance has begun branching out its already-vast inventory of OEM parts, developing systems that assist your vehicle in feasibly driving alone. VW recently introduced a new company, Moia, which will focus solely on developing self-driving vehicles, autonomous driving systems and some new genuine VW parts needed for each car.

Other companies are focusing on different aspects of the transportation landscape. Some are investing in autonomous mass transportation, while others are focusing more on improving the parts and systems directly to allow consumer automobiles to drive themselves, even under the most challenging conditions.

Better Mass Transportation

Speaking of mass transportation, the shift towards better mass transportation is also a driving force behind many technologies that will be the future of transportation. One particularly interesting project is Hyperloop and its Hyperloop One, a new technology designed to immensely increase the speed at which people and resources can be transported.

It utilizes a pod-like vehicle and an advanced rail and propulsion systems that would allow the vehicle to achieve great speed. It is also very energy efficient, especially with the help of a proprietary near-vacuum tube that also acts as the main line for the new system.

What’s interesting is Hyperloop’s on-demand approach. On-demand mass transportation will be the headline of many future technologies in transportation. The market needs a more sustainable system that can cater to high volume and diverse needs, which is why on-demand mass transportation is considered the way forward.

Intelligent Transportation

As we get smarter appliances and wearables, it is only natural to expect smarter vehicles and means of transportation. Intelligent transportation now means so much more than just a better in-car entertainment system. AI and machine learning are beginning to predict transportation needs, offer better driving and commuting experiences and even find ways to conserve energy in real time.

Of course, the same intelligence systems are also making hydrogen-powered cars and better hybrids possible. We’re getting more range from electric cars along with more effective auto parts for maximum efficiency. All of these small changes add up; intelligent transportation, along with better mass transportation and autonomous vehicles, will indeed be the future.
